The Defiance S10 is a compact sealed active subwoofer with a 254 mm S-PAL aluminium driver, a 500 W continuous amplifier, built-in wireless connection and app control: serious bass for music and films without crowding the room.
Defiance S10: engineering in a small space
The Defiance S10 packs a good deal of engineering into a sealed cabinet of about 35 cm a side, small enough for a corner or for fitting inside custom furniture. The 254 mm driver has a long-throw S-PAL diaphragm in satin-anodised pure aluminium, fixed to a basket of pressed steel. It is driven by an Ultra Class-D amplifier giving 500 W continuous and 1,000 W peak, steered by a DSP working at 64 bits; response reaches down to 18 Hz to the DIN standard.
Hooking it up to the system need not involve a cable: the wireless receiver is built in and the Paradigm transmitter comes in the box, with a pairing button on the back. The same panel holds the LED-lit level knob, the start and pause controls for a frequency-sweep test signal and the power selector, which offers on, 12 V trigger and automatic.
Every adjustment can also be made from the smartphone app. The subwoofer is prepared for Anthem Room Correction: the ARC Genesis kit is bought separately and is used to measure the room so the response can be adapted. Anti-vibration feet are part of the cabinet and spikes for carpeted floors are supplied. The model is offered in more than one finish.
