OUR PICK FOR OCTOBER 2026
The Eighties, with one more dimension
Issued in 1985, No Jacket Required is Phil Collins' third solo album: heartfelt ballads next to tracks full of funk and R&B, with "Sussudio", "One More Night", "Don't Lose My Number" and "Take Me Home" among its singles. It topped the charts in eleven countries and won three Grammys.
The title comes from a true story: in Chicago Collins was turned away from a smart venue because he had no jacket on.
In the Dolby Atmos mix the drums, with the "gated" reverb that was the trademark of those years, become deeper and feel as if they fill the room. Synthesisers and horn sections stand apart from the rest with precision, and details buried in earlier mixes come back to the surface.
