This is The Classic Reference in the version with the VPO 175 cartridge already mounted on its S-shaped EVO 9 AS HG arm. A belt-drive turntable with floating sub-chassis, aluminium alloy platter, 33, 45 and 78 rpm, and RCA plus balanced XLR outputs.
The Classic Reference VPO 175: arm, cartridge and drive
Unlike the model sold without a cartridge, this version leaves the factory with the VPO 175 installed in the SME-type headshell. The arm is the EVO 9 AS HG: an S-shaped aluminium tube with high internal damping, high-purity copper wires and an inverted gimbal bearing, ABEC 7 in quality, working on four stainless steel points. The bearing housing is thick aluminium for stability, and its outer ring is open so as not to set off resonance.
Signal can be taken from either the RCA sockets or the balanced XLRs, a connection whose merit is cancelling noise and interference picked up along the cable. Arm and platter share an aluminium sub-chassis resting on damping balls of TPE, which keeps them clear of vibration from motor and plinth.
The platter is precision machined in an aluminium alloy and damped by an inner TPE ring; it is supported by a diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter, more accurate and heavier than a plastic one. The motor receives a clean sine wave from a dedicated generator and all three speeds are selected electronically. The package includes the acrylic dust cover, the Leather it leather mat, the Clamp it record clamp and the Connect it Phono E RCA lead. The design descends from The Classic EVO and from the turntable Pro-Ject drew up for the Vienna Philharmonic.
