The Q Acoustics Q SUB120 is the largest active subwoofer in the Q SUB family: a 305 mm woofer in a sealed box, 300 W continuous and DSP processing, for big rooms, substantial speakers and cinema low-frequency effects.
Q SUB120: 305 mm woofer and 300 W for large rooms
The Q SUB120 is the model for big rooms and larger speakers, whether in a stereo set-up or a multichannel system, where it reproduces the low-frequency effects channel. The 305 mm woofer uses a steel chassis with a paper cone and a rubber surround and, unlike its smaller siblings, uses a 50 mm voice coil, again with an aluminium demodulation ring. The cabinet is a 44.1 litre sealed box in 18 mm MDF, with a 36 mm baffle and internal bracing.
Amplification delivers 300 W continuous and 600 W peak, with 0.09% harmonic distortion at rated power. The module, designed for this family, combines DSP, power supply and four digital output stages laid out as a parallel bridge: the configuration lowers output impedance, increases control over the driver and sheds less heat. Stated maximum level is 114 dB at one metre and the response reaches 28 Hz at -6 dB.
For integration the DSP identifies the type and level of the input signal and adapts the gain; the low-pass filter adjusts between 40 and 250 Hz, and phase inversion and delay are provided to align the subwoofer with the speakers wherever it stands. The absence of a reflex port makes placement close to walls easier. The cabinet measures 40 x 40 x 43.2 cm and weighs 22.5 kg.
