Round in-ceiling speaker with a 6.5" Kevlar / Nomex woofer
The Sonance VX66R is a round speaker from the Visual Experience series, built for ceiling installation, with a 6.5" pivoting woofer in Kevlar / Nomex and a ceramic dome tweeter. Sold as a pair.
It mounts in a circular ceiling opening. It uses the Sonance CDX crossover, which the maker says keeps warmth and detail whatever the volume, together with a waveguide developed to widen coverage and make listening consistent.
Key features
- 1" tweeter (25 mm) using a ceramic dome, cooled by Ferrofluid, with a rear acoustic chamber
- 6.5" pivoting woofer (165 mm): cone in Kevlar / Nomex, surround in rubber
- Frequency response from 43 Hz to 20 kHz (+/- 3 dB)
- Power handling between 5 and 140 watts RMS
- Sensitivity of 90 dB (2.83 V at 1 m)
- Dispersion handled by the Sinusoidal Textured Waveguide
Installation
The cut-out is 210 mm in diameter and the mounting depth is 125 mm. The Visual Experience series allows either the standard single-stage installation or an optional two-stage one: with the latter, cabling and space reservation are done ahead of construction, and the job ends by snapping the speaker module into place.
Finishes and grilles
The finish is satin Brilliant White. Three grille styles exist for the Visual Experience series: Micro Trim, Trimless and TRUFIG-mounted Trimless, the last one intended for precise alignment and a finish level with the surrounding surface.
