The Defiance X10 is an active reflex subwoofer with a 254 mm driver on an ART surround, app control and ARC room correction complete with microphone: a compact answer for home cinema and music listening.
Defiance X10: what is inside
At the centre of the Defiance X10 sits a 254 mm driver with a carbon-filled polypropylene diaphragm and Paradigm's patented ART (Active Ridge Technology) surround. The edge is overmoulded with a row of ridges that give the diaphragm a longer stroke without buckling: the maker credits it with 3 dB of extra output and half the audible distortion of a conventional surround. The cabinet, made in Canada, is stiffened by internal braces and tuned through a low-turbulence reflex port.
Amplification is Class D with automatic switch-on and soft clipping. Paradigm is revising its power measurements, so the official data sheet leaves them out; the Italian distributor quotes 300 W continuous and 600 W peak. On-axis response spans 29 to 240 Hz within ±3 dB and low-frequency extension reaches 24 Hz (DIN).
Paradigm's free Subwoofer Control app, for iOS and Android, lets you trim volume, low-pass filter, phase and deep-bass level from the listening seat, with three ready-made listening modes and a direct link to the ARC app. Anthem Room Correction measures the room using either the phone or the calibrated microphone in the box and evens out irregularities in the response. Inputs comprise three RCA sockets, two high-level connections and a Micro USB service port.
