Moving-coil character compatible with many MM inputs
Denon DL-110 is a high-output moving-coil cartridge rated at 1.6mV, with elliptical stylus, lightweight body and output intended to work with many MM phono inputs.
Design and intended use
It differs clearly from DL-103 and 103R in output and stylus. Higher level reduces the need for a high-gain MC input, while the elliptical profile follows the groove with different contact from a conical tip. It remains an MC cartridge with a non-user-replaceable stylus and requires correct matching for mass, height and compliance.
Main features
- High-output moving-coil generator
- Rated output of 1.6mV
- Elliptical stylus
- Low 4.8g body mass
- Recommended tracking force of 1.8g
Selection and setup
Use with an MM input depends on the actual sensitivity of the phono stage and available volume; some systems may require more control range than with a conventional MM. It contains no tonearm, so a headshell, screws, alignment and turntable adjustment are required. It suits users entering MC replay without necessarily replacing their phono stage with one dedicated to 0.2-0.3mV signals.
The cartridge is only the pickup end of the system: results also depend on tonearm effective mass, geometry, gain and phono-stage loading. Alignment, vertical tracking force and anti-skating must be checked with suitable tools after fitting. A worn or dirty stylus compromises tracking and records regardless of generator quality.
