A compact monitor designed to be less critical about placement
Totem Loon Monitor is a two-way standmount loudspeaker with a 5.75-inch woofer, 1-inch textile tweeter and nominal 8-ohm impedance.
Compared with Bison Monitor it is simpler and less expensive, but keeps an emphasis on wide dispersion and easy integration. Totem specifies useful performance even beyond 45 degrees off axis, which helps where the listening position cannot remain perfectly centred.
Key features
- Compact two-way loudspeaker with reflex loading.
- 5.75-inch woofer with copper-clad voice coil.
- 1-inch laser-etched textile soft-dome tweeter.
- Specified frequency response of 51 Hz-26 kHz ±3 dB.
- 8-ohm impedance and 87 dB sensitivity.
- Recommended amplifier power from 20 to 110 W.
- First-order filter with a 2.5 kHz crossover point.
- Compact dimensions of roughly 27 x 15 x 20 cm.
Easier placement
The small cabinet and wide dispersion allow use not only in a conventional stereo system but also on a desk or as a rear channel with Bison speakers. Rear-wall spacing can begin at around 15 cm, leaving useful scope to tune bass balance to the room.
Compared with Bison Monitor
Bison Monitor reaches 40 Hz, uses a larger tweeter and accepts more amplifier power. Loon Monitor instead prioritises compactness, lower system cost and placement tolerance. It is better suited to small rooms, secondary systems and installations where easy integration matters more than maximum bass extension. Its 5.75-inch woofer provides more radiating area than the Kin monitors and is partnered by a dedicated Loon tweeter while retaining an 8-ohm load. This makes it suitable for moderate-power amplifiers, provided their overall quality and control are appropriate. Its modest weight also makes small placement experiments easy, useful when optimising toe-in and distance from nearby surfaces.
