Four independent zones with audio matrix and ARC Genesis for every room
Anthem MDX8 is an 8-channel matrixed multi-room amplifier for up to 4 zones, with 60 W into 8 ohms, 120 W into 4 ohms, 200 W bridged and ARC Genesis per zone.
MDX8 combines amplification, source routing and room correction in one component dedicated to distributed audio. Each zone has independent controls, a subwoofer output and access to analogue or digital sources through the internal matrix. Its purpose therefore differs from MCA power amplifiers: here the channels create autonomous rooms that can play different sources at the same time.
Key features
- 8 amplifier channels for up to 4 stereo zones.
- 60 W per channel into 8 ohms and 120 W into 4 ohms.
- Bridge mode up to 200 W into 8 ohms.
- Analogue and digital audio matrix with independent routing by zone.
- ARC Genesis available independently for every zone.
- Four subwoofer outputs with bass management and room correction.
- PCM DAC support up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
- Web interface and IP/RS-232 control for automation systems.
Four genuinely independent zones
The eight channels can create up to four stereo zones, each with its own source, volume and configuration. In a whole-home system one room can therefore play different music from another while control remains centralised in the same amplifier, a fundamentally different role from a conventional home cinema power amp.
Analogue and digital matrix
The internal matrix routes analogue and digital inputs to the required zones without an external switcher. MDX8 provides RCA, coaxial and optical inputs and handles PCM sources up to 24-bit/192 kHz, giving flexibility with both legacy components and modern digital sources.
ARC Genesis for every zone
ARC Genesis operates independently in each of the four zones, measuring room response and applying specific correction. This is particularly useful in multi-room systems, where a kitchen, living room, bedroom and office can have very different acoustics and require their own calibration.
Independent subwoofers
Each zone has its own subwoofer output with bass management. A sub can therefore be added only where required and calibrated together with the zone loudspeakers through ARC Genesis, without forcing the same low-frequency configuration across the whole property.
Power and bridge mode
Each channel delivers 60 W into 8 ohms and 120 W into 4 ohms. When a single zone needs greater output, a pair of channels can be bridged to provide 200 W into 8 ohms, allowing power distribution to be adapted to the requirements of different rooms.
Web control and automation
The Web interface allows zones, inputs and parameters to be configured without physical access to the rack. IP and RS-232 provide integration with automation platforms including Control4, Crestron, ELAN, RTI, Savant and URC, making MDX8 suitable for centrally managed custom installations.
