VPI Forever Model One: modular belt-drive turntable with a 10-inch S-shaped tonearm
The Forever Model One opens the Forever series, which VPI has built around a modular design that can be upgraded over time. It is a belt-drive turntable for 33 and 45 rpm records and comes with the 10-inch S-shaped tonearm already mounted. The module that groups motor and platter and the tonearm module can be swapped without difficulty, so the turntable can be updated instead of replaced.
The chassis has a wooden skirt and a top plate in machined aluminium, finished in matte black. The 9 kg aluminium platter turns on an inverted, oil-lubricated bearing and is driven by a 300 rpm motor. The three-point floating suspension relies on a technical polymer and on a construction VPI calls 3D isolation: it can be adjusted for levelling, shields the turntable from outside and internal vibration and keeps motor noise away from platter and tonearm.
Key features
- Modular build: motor-platter and tonearm modules can be replaced
- Belt drive, 33 and 45 rpm speeds, 300 rpm motor
- Aluminium platter: diameter about 305 mm, weight 9 kg
- Three-point floating suspension, adjustable for levelling
- Wow and flutter 0.05%, speed accuracy 0.05%, rumble at -80 dB
- Overall size 55 x 40 x 22 cm (width, depth, height), footprint of about 495 x 349 mm
- Total weight about 18.1 kg
Supplied tonearm
The tonearm is an S-shaped, 10-inch design with static balance, made entirely of solid aluminium with an integrated headshell and running on ABEC 5 class ball bearings. Effective length is 255 mm, mounting distance 240 mm, effective mass 10.4 g, overhang 15 mm and offset angle 21 degrees. It takes cartridges weighing between 5 and 15 g, has anti-skating and can be raised or lowered between 40 and 65 mm; VTA and azimuth adjustments are provided. The internal wiring is VPI copper.
Available upgrades
The upgrades VPI lists for the Forever Model One include the Periphery Ring Clamp, the Analog Drive System (ADS) unit for speed adjustment, the Fatboy tonearms in gimbal or unipivot form and the Modular Two module.
