Dedicated power amplifier and supply that complete the AK500N system
Astell&Kern AK500AP is the package combining the AK500A stereo power amplifier with the separate AK500P power supply, designed to operate with AK500N.
It is not a single integrated amplifier: AK500A handles the audio signal and loudspeakers, while AK500P provides the high-capacity power stage. Together they complete the AK500N network player and form the amplification section of the AK500N Full system.

AK500A separates input, driver and output stages
The amplifier uses independent circuit sections for the input buffer, driver and output stage, each with separate constant-voltage supplies. A DC-feedback signal path avoids coupling capacitors, while optical protection sensors reduce physical and electrical contact within the protection circuitry. Specified gain is 26 dB, with a 20 Hz-20 kHz response and 105 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
AK500P provides the power reserve
The dedicated supply uses high-frequency switching and provides 1,000 watts of continuous capacity together with Power Factor Correction. Keeping the power supply in a separate chassis physically isolates it from the amplifier section and creates the characteristic stacked AK500 arrangement.
Designed for AK500N rather than universal power-amplifier use
AK500AP was created specifically as the partner for AK500N. It suits users starting with the network player who want matched amplification and power supply to form the Full architecture. Owners of a separate power amplifier can instead operate AK500N without this package. AK500AP therefore makes most sense when the whole chain is intended to remain within the same mechanical and electrical architecture, with power supply and amplification developed alongside the source and intended for the coordinated stacked layout of the series and direct integration with AK500N.
