AKM conversion, dual outputs and DAR in a pocket USB DAC
Astell&Kern AK HC4 is a USB DAC/amplifier using an AK4493S converter, 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs, plus selectable Digital Audio Remaster processing.
It is more flexible than HC2 and HC3 in headphone connectivity, providing a 2 Vrms unbalanced socket and a 3 Vrms balanced output in the same body. The source-side cable is interchangeable, with USB-C and Lightning connections supplied for broader device compatibility.

The HC model with two headphone outputs
HC2 is limited to balanced 4.4 mm, while HC3 uses a single 3.5 mm socket and adds microphone support. HC4 combines both headphone connector types and adds DAR, making it the more practical option for users alternating between IEMs and headphones with different terminations.
Powered directly by the source
There is no internal battery, so HC4 takes power from the connected device and remains simpler than HB1. It is intended for users who want to turn a smartphone, tablet or computer into a wired Hi-Res source without another component that requires separate charging.
