Astell&Kern SEM2

The AKM module that gives A&futura SE180 a different audio path

Astell&Kern SEM2 is an All-in-One module for SE180 with dual AK4497EQ DACs, dedicated amplification and three headphone outputs.

It replaces the module fitted to the player and changes conversion and output stage in one step. Compared with the standard SEM1, it introduces an AKM-based platform and supports PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz plus native DSD512.

Key features

• Compatible exclusively with A&futura SE180.
• Dual AKM AK4497EQ DACs.
• Format support reaches 32-bit/768 kHz PCM plus native DSD512.
• 3.5 mm, 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs.
• Normal Gain and High Gain settings.
• Up to 6 Vrms from balanced outputs in High Gain.
• Signal-to-noise ratio up to 127 dB balanced.

DAC and amplifier in one component

SEM2 is not a simple adaptor: it contains two AK4497EQ converters and an amplifier circuit designed specifically for the module. High Gain raises output from 2 to 3 Vrms unbalanced and from 4 to 6 Vrms balanced, providing additional margin for headphones that need greater voltage.

Why add it to SE180

Its purpose is to exploit the SE180's defining feature: changing the complete audio section without replacing the player. It is suited to listeners who want to compare the standard ESS module with an AKM solution and gain support for higher PCM rates and DSD512.
